End of the Year Celebration

Are you looking for a fun way to spend a day with your students
at the end of the year?

Maybe this will be an idea you can use!

Every year I have a
"Sand-sational Reading Celebration!"

The students come to school dressed in shorts, tropical shirts, sandals, and beach hats.  They can bring a beach towel to sit on while they read and to use for a game of musical beach towels (just like musical chairs).
They each get a lei and we learn the Hukilau, do the limbo, drink Capri Suns,
and eat goldfish or Swedish Fish!
I also look up the Hawaiian name for each of my students, and they wear that on a nametag for the day.

They get so excited for this!

So...what fun things are you doing?

Wishing I was sitting in this chair,
Robyn

My Day in Pictures

I'm not quite sure what to make of today.

Let me show you...

I was startled this morning while doing a little shopping at this large mound that rustled as I walked by...

yes...sprawled out on that lawn chair underneath that blanket is a person...sleeping.
And almost as shocking...this wasn't while I was at Walmart...this was at Target friends.
Really?

I quickly moved out of that section and headed to the makeup.
I decided to jump on the Baby Lips bandwagon...not sure what the fuss is about.  Fail!

The bright spot for the day was finding these Salon Effects nail polish strips on clearance for $2.25 (regularly $8.50)!! I love these.

And the clincher for the day was coming home and finding a bat dangling from my house.  Yuck!
And I just peeked and he's still there.
Dear Bat...Please find a new home...you are not welcome here!

Mother's Day Biography

Every year for Mother's Day my students write a biography about their mom.
First they fill in the blanks on a form and then transfer that information to a booklet.
Here is a sample of some of the things included in that biography...

Her favorite subject in school was _________________.
She wanted to be a _________when she grew up.
My mom likes to eat _____________________________.
She makes the very best __________________________.
My mom is proud of me when I _____________________.
She is special because __________________________.
The most fun thing to do with my mom is ____________.
My mom can do many things!  I think she’s best at _________.
Her favorite thing about me is _______________________.
I love my mom most because _____________________.

It sure is fun to see what they come up with!

Here are a couple of pictures of the booklets.
They look darling when we add the final touches of
ribbon and buttons.

Hopefully this is a fun keepsake for the moms!

Friday Five

Here are five of my favorite things from the week...
{link up here}

One.
Spring Break!  I was so ready for this week and am sad it's pretty much over.

Two.
Loved the last New Beauty Test Tube and am anxious for my fourth one to be delivered next week.
The Exfolikate was by far the product I was most excited to try.  It's amazing!

Three.
Planted ranunculus this week...currently my favorite flower.

Four.
Loving this reversible table runner.  I switch sides often because I can't decide which one I like better.
{it's folded over in the picture so you can see both sides}

Five.
A friend treated me to probably the best homemade chocolate chip cookies I have ever had!
Here's the recipe with her tips included...

Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies
2 cups shortening (I usually substitute butter for part of this - so about 1 1/2 cubes butter and 3/4 cup shortening)
4 eggs
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
2 tsp vanilla
2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. soda
3 1/4 cups flour
4 cups oatmeal
3/4 package chocolate chips

First cream together sugars, shortening/butter, eggs and vanilla, then add other ingredients.  Bake at 350 for 10 minutes.
It makes a lot, so I sometimes half it.  If I do the full recipe, I just throw the dough into ziploc bags and freeze.
